His work focuses more on the algorithmic\/software side of things, but his ideas still apply to thinking about different paradigms of control and expression as they play out in the interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/bussigel.com\/newinstruments\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/lewis-2000.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Too Many Notes: Computers, Complexity, and Culture in Voyager<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/bussigel.com\/newinstruments\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/lewis-1999.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interacting with Latter-day Musical Automata<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The New Instruments for Musical Expression, or NIME, conference has been the academic hub exploring expressive interfaces for a few decades now. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nime.org\/archives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">There are many wonderful papers<\/a> on specific and general topics related to sound and interaction. If there is sometime specific you are looking for, I recommend using your browser&#8217;s seach function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/guthman.gatech.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guthman Musical Instrument Competition<\/a> is another place where music and microcontrollers converge in interesting and odd ways. Take a look at the past participants for ideas and inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is an assortment of papers, essays, and books that I have found relevant to this type of work. If you have suggestions \/ additions, feel free to add them in the comments!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.musanim.com\/pdf\/PhysicalInteractionBongers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Physical Interfaces in the Electronic Arts<\/a> by Bert Bongers (a good starting point)<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/bussigel.com\/newinstruments\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/waisvisz-1985.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hands<\/a> by Michel Waisvisz<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/bussigel.com\/newinstruments\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/cyborg_manifesto.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cyborg Manifesto<\/a> by Donna Haraway.
